There was an interesting item on “BBC Breakfast” this morning, including an interview with a representative from Which?, the UK’s Consumer Association. In today’s Which? newsletter, they report on flawed endorsements by Amazon Choice, based on fake or ‘bought’ reviews. Their report relates to all Amazon’s product range; but the issue of fake or misleading reviews being posted based on ‘incentives’ supplied by the vendor will, of course, also apply to books. That’s a concern for all us authors, as it debases our customers’ trust in reviews, which so many of us are relying on to increase confidence in our products and, therefore, our sales.
