What an inspirational tale… Susanna Clarke wins Women’s Prize for Fiction

What an inspirational tale…

British author Susanna Clarke has won the 2021 Women’s Prize for Fiction for her second novel Piranesi. She wrote her first novel, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, in 2004, before struggling with chronic fatigue syndrome for the best part of 15 years.

Her first novel was a best-seller and was made into a TV series.

Her second novel has now won her £30,000. Described as ‘Intriguing, immersive and experimental’, Piranesi is a mystery about a man living alone in a labyrinthine house of vast halls and statues, with tides that surge through its staircases and clouds that drift through its upper rooms. It’s currently #4 best selling kindle book on amazon.com 😀

To write just two novels in 17 years, with poor health in between, and have both of them succeed in such spectacular ways, is well beyond most author’s dreams and is, therefore, a remarkable achievement.
